Opened in 2008, this relatively large lake surrounded by greenery, trees and a bicycle track provides facilities to kayak, windsurf and sail all for a mere 40 baht. Life jackets and instructors are also available, so even if you’ve never tried these sports before there is someone at hand to help.
Before you start your sporting activities you need to become a member of the club. This will cost you 40 baht for the whole year and you will need to provide your passport (or a photocopy) and 2 passport sized photos (should you forget your photos, you can bring them the next time you visit). Once you’ve filled in the forms and signed up, you will be given your ticket and you can grab your locker key and proceed to get changed.
The changing facilities are good and clean and there are showers, toilets and lockers. Once you’re changed you need to place your ticket in a box to show staff that you are on the lake. Remember to also collect this when you have finished so they know you have left. You can choose from kayaking, wind surfing or sailing, or you can try all of them if you so wish! Free tuition is also available.
We didn’t try the sailing or wind surfing but instead opted for kayaking. The lake is relatively large and you can cover quite some distance – our arms hurt a lot once we had finished!
Although it is a pleasant setting and extremely cheap, we would like to warn you that we did see many dead fish floating in the lake and washed up on the sides. We also experienced the occasional dodgy smells. However, after thorough showers we have lived to tell the tale!
Aside from water sports, the area also provides some nice walks, an outdoor ‘gym’, a floating football pitch and a 3.8 KM cycling track.
