Sampran Riverside is a great place to spend a day experiencing Thai arts and crafts, dance, food, tradition and culture. Whether a resident of Thailand, or a visitor to Bangkok we’re sure you will experience and learn something new.

The setting is beautiful and green and placed alongside a river. We thoroughly enjoyed wandering and exploring the grounds.

In the morning from 10am – 12pm, this unique Thai village hosts arts and crafts workshops. You can wander around trying different activities and as many as you like. Each craft has their own area and tutor. There’s a huge range of activities including pottery, weaving, garland making, silk making, umbrella painting and herbal compress making to name just a few.

At lunch time you can choose between a buffet lunch or an a la carte menu at the riverside restaurant. All food served here is organic and from local farmers.

In the afternoon there are more workshops, this time focusing on dance and culture. You can attempt Muay Thai, sword fighting, bamboo stick dancing and try on traditional clothes.

As the set up is like a traditional Thai village there are lots of animals to see and stroke, and there are people playing traditional Thai instruments too.

At 2.15 there is a traditional elephant show, which we were originally concerned about, but actually was educational rather than for entertainment. However, we weren’t overly happy that they do still offer elephant rides.

Finally at 2.45 there is a performance, show casing the Thai way of life. Accompanied by live traditional Thai music, actors and dancers take the stage to demonstrate Muay Thai, sword fighting and explain the traditions of various Thai festivals and events.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day out, and recommend visiting Sampran Riverside. However, do make sure you get your timings right to not miss any of the shows, activities and entertainment.
